Not safe, even at home?

Man attacked and robbed in home
Police want to trace two men and a woman after a 60-year-old man was badly beaten in his home and robbed.
The man has suffered serious injuries including a number of fractures, bruising, a fractured eye socket and head and chest wounds, police said.

He was attacked some time over the last few days and went for help by walking into a pub near his home in Victoria Road, Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent.

He is in a stable condition in hospital after emergency treatment.

A number of items were taken from the man's home.

Det Sgt Gary Evans from Staffordshire Police said: "We are working to trace two men and a woman in connection with this very serious assault.

"We believe that this man was targeted by the offenders and we are working to identify those responsible and I urge anyone with information about this incident to contact us."

I have read quite a few stories like the one above over the last few weeks. Over the last few years there seems to have been a spate of 'home invasions' up and down the UK where amongst other things car keys have been stolen. The Police were quick to explain that the modern cars were difficult to steal without the keys and that criminals were starting to break into houses when they knew the occupants were home so that they could steal their cars. Now I am starting to wonder if it was just the begining of an increase in robberies targeting people inside their own homes that happened to include the theft of car keys.

I suppose we shall have to see.
